Due to an ever increasing demand from horse people from overseas and New Zealand, North River Horse & Humanship Centre has replaced the old Working Student Programme with our new Trainee Programme.
That means we do not offer any places for working students for food and logding or internships any more.
The new Trainee Programme is targeted to people that have a desire to professionally work in the horse industry, whether that be as horsemanship trainers or coaches, riding therapy coaches. equine assisted therapy professions, or working with horses for professional or personal development of people. To get involved with the new Trainee Programme there are a few things that you need to know:
Minimum Length of Stay: 1 month
Maximum Length of Stay: 4 months
Commitment: What we offer is more than just a Trainee Programme, it is a chance for you to fully immerse yourself into a way of life around our horses and the chance to understand how the way we live is reflected to us by our horses and the way we are around our horses is reflected back into the way we live. From our experience, the deeper the immersion the greater the learning. It is also a chance to work intensively with a variety of different horses which can broaden your experience.
The Programme: There are many elements to what we can offer you:
We offer you a letter of reference about your stay here and what you have accomplised in your time with us and rights to use our names in the promotion of yourself and your work. We will also promote you and your work to our clients in areas, districts and countries for followup and ongoing help when we are unable to be there.
We do not offer certificates to be a Humanship Trainer as this is still an ongoing path of learning, understanding and integration for us that is has become commitment to a life long journey.

- Comprehensive theory introduction and ongoing integration of the theory into practice.
- Intensive Humanship/Horsemanship coaching days/sessions.
- Equine Assisted Learning sessions for personal self development.
- A project horse/horses for the duration of your stay.
- Self motivated learning
- Peer teaching & the opportunity to help our clients learn.
- Ongoing mentoring.
- Trail rides in the hills, bush and river in the North River valley.
- And usually a reasonable amount of fun.
