Other Activities

One of our desires in opening the Horse & Humanship Centre is that the property is here for others to share & enjoy.
Horse Trekking

Horse trekking has been the core business of the property for the last 17 years.  Some 30,000 visitors rode horses on the property during this period.  North River Treks, as it was known then, built a strong reputation for a quality, safe service in an industry renowned for its ‘cowboys’.

As a member of the collective, RideNZ, we were part of the team that raised the standards of horse trekking in New Zealand with the development and introduction of both a code of minimum standards, now administered by Qualmark and a qualification framework for horse trek guiding for NZQA.

Now the horse trekking is a relatively small but essential part of the operation at North River as it adds even more variety our horses’ already varied lives.
For the coming year we are still offering horse treks when time and staff are available outside of the other programmes.
We still offer the same quality and service as when we were solely in the trekking business.  In fact it is probably even better now as the pressure is a lot less.

On offer are 1 , 1 1/2 and 2 hour treks.
Availability: 1st October - 31st May
Cost: $50 per hour per person with a minimum of 2 people.
